Suspect held in Hattiesburg shooting - Mississippi News Now


HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) - Police in Hattiesburg say a 35-year-old man has been shot to death and a suspect is in custody.


Forest County Coroner Jonathan Nobles tells WDAM-TV (http://bit.ly/1pTaZt0 ) that Carlos Yancey of Hattiesburg died Friday from a single gunshot.


Police Lt. Jon Traxler says 60-year-old Jerry Evans of Hattiesburg was booked with murder at the Forest County jail.


Traxler says police responded to a call of a fight in the 900 block of Dabbs Street around 11:30 p.m. He says the victim died at Forrest General Hospital after being taken there by a person from the scene.


It was not immediately clear whether Evans has an attorney.
