3 of 8 suspects wanted by Hattiesburg police in custody - WDAM-TV

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Hattiesburg police have arrested three of eight suspects in connection to the city's 12th homicide of 2014 and are searching for five more.


Anthony Crosby, 22, Brandon McNair, 27, and Michael May, 20, were all arrested Monday evening and charged with conspiracy to commit a felony, as well as street gang activity in connection to the Saturday night shooting death of Nathaniel Alexander, 39.


Hattiesburg Police Lt. Jon Traxler stated that Jamarcus Pettigrew, 23, was previously arrested late Sunday night and charged with hindering prosecution, rendering criminal assistance in connection with the Saturday night homicide.


Arrest warrants are still active for Lyndale Flowers, Marcus Harris, Cedrick Smith, Thomas Gordon, and Ladayle Strickland in connection to the Saturday night West 4th street homicide.


According to a release from the Hattiesburg Police Department, the charges the suspects are facing upon arrest are conspiracy to murder, conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, conspiracy to commit drive-by shooting, and criminal street gang activity. All of the suspects charges will vary according to Traxler, and not all will be charged with each.


The names previously listed are all the people with active warrants issued for their arrest; however other names could be added to the list.

Scene of the Crime:


Forrest County Coroner Butch Benedict stated Alexander died in the operating room at Forrest General Hospital shortly before 11:00 p.m. Saturday from what appears to be multiple gunshot wounds.


According to Benedict, the body will be sent to the Mississippi State Crime Lab for an autopsy.


Hattiesburg police responded to the scene of shooting assisting AAA ambulance service at 312 West 4th Street shortly before 9:00 p.m. Saturday.


Upon arrival, police found Alexander suffering from what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds outside the residence. He was transported to Forrest General Hospital where he later died.


Witnesses on the scene stated that the incident was a drive by shooting, and multiple shots were fired.


Police officers searched the street and front yard of the home with flashlights inside the taped off area along 4th Street.


Blue lights reflecting off shell casings that covered the roadway were collected by members of the Hattiesburg Crime Scene Unit.


It is unclear at this time if the victim lived at the residence where the shooting occurred, but according to Traxler, he did know people at the house.


City of Hattiesburg's third homicide in less than two weeks, 12th of 2014:


On Nov. 19th, Christopher Robinson, 48, was shot to death at an apartment on Morningside Drive. Police charged Lincoln Kelly, 32, with burglary and murder. Reginald Hoyle, 28, was charged with accessory after the fact of murder and burglary in connection to the crime as well.


On Nov. 20th, Toney Robinson, 55, was beaten to death in front of the Hope House Ministries located on West Pine Street. Police charged Nijal Garry, 23, with murder after he was taken into custody following a police chase in the victim's vehicle.
