Shooting incident leads to Hattiesburg drug arrest - WDAM-TV

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

A Hattiesburg man is behind bars and facing over $100,000 bond after a Saturday night shooting incident led authorities to drugs and weapons.

According to Hattiesburg police Lt. Jon Traxler, around 3:15 a.m. officers responded to a report of shots fired in the Highway 98 and Ralston Road area. Upon arrival, officers heard additional shots fired.

As officers made their way around the residence, they located two white males and they were taken into custody.

One of those was Leland Fletcher, 18, the other was released on misdemeanor charges.

According to Traxler, several weapons were recovered on Fletcher as well as a controlled substance. Officers then searched Fletcher's vehicle and discovered three more weapons as well as a large amount of marijuana.

Traxler did not have an exact total, but stated it was enough to warrant a charge of possession with intent to distribute.

All of the weapons and drugs were seized, and the crime occurred within 1500 feet of a church which added an additional charge.

Fletcher was charged with possession of a controlled substance (over 2 to 10 grams), possession of marijuana, controlled substance-enhanced penalty with possession of a firearm at crime, controlled substance paraphernalia, controlled substance with intent in proximity of a church, and discharging in the city limits.
