7 charged with Hattiesburg election misdemeanors - Mississippi News Now

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) - Twelfth Circuit Court District Attorney Patricia Burchell says Forrest County grand juries have charged seven people with misdemeanors in Hattiesburg's two mayoral elections last year.

Burchell tells WDAM-TV (http://bit.ly/1wfXFiY ) that she cannot say who was indicted because the people have not been served with the indictments.

She said in a news release that she also cannot give any specifics about the charges.

Mayor Johnny DuPree won a fourth term after two elections against former City Councilman Dave Ware. The first was thrown out because of vote-counting problems. Many of Ware's supporters alleged irregularities in the second, as well.

Burchell says grand juries sitting in January and July considered evidence in the two elections.
