HATTIESBURG, Mississippi — Dog lovers living in and around downtown Hattiesburg may soon be able to visit the city's first neighborhood dog park.

On Thursday, members of the nonprofit See Spot Run Inc. met with community members at West Pine Street and Fourth Avenue to unveil the group's plans for the vacant, overgrow lot.

Carey Varnado, chairman of the recently created organization, tells The Hattiesburg American (http://hatne.ws/1vDvCgw ) it will take about $150,000 to cover the property and park construction costs, and half that total has been received through commitments from area businesses and individuals.

With approximately $75,000 left to raise, Varnado said he hopes citizens will see the value in the project and donate what they can so the park's construction can begin in the next few months.
