The Hattiesburg Police Department is investigating a bomb threat at Hattiesburg High School on Tuesday.
At approximately 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, the Hattiesburg Police Department received a prank call. The threat forced a delayed start to the school day.
“The call said that there was a bomb at Hattiesburg high school, so they received the actual bomb threat at the police department,” said Jermaine Brown, Hattiesburg High Principal.
An evacuation for the school was then issued.
“I knew that no kids were here at that time, but they would be arriving shortly. So what we did was go into our procedures as far as bomb threats go,” said Tony Davis, Hattiesburg Public Schools Police Chief.
Davis said, in the mean time the police department, fire department, and emergency management showed up to the school, and began working fast and efficiently.
“The K-9 bomb sniffing dog was sent out. He actually went through every classroom, every building on campus,” said Brown.
The Hattiesburg Police Department continues to work closely with the school to find the person responsible for the threat. Davis said that he went down to the Police Department to hear the recording of the call.
“That recording was very important the voice will be analyzed and looked at. I'll tell ya something they left quite a bit of track with that recording,” said Davis.
